Tiger Woods is feeling good about his golf game as he continued his return to a full competitive schedule with a T2 finish at the Valspar Championship.
“Well, I think that I’ve gotten a little bit better than I was a couple weeks ago at Honda; keep getting a little bit better and sharper. Today wasn’t quite as sharp as I would like to have had it but I had a good shot at winning … couple of putts here and there would have been a different story,” said Woods, who closed with a 70 at Innisbrook’s Copperhead Course to finish on eight-under-par … just one short of winner Paul Casey.
“I was close. I had a chance today. Unfortunately I just didn’t quite feel as sharp as I needed to with my irons, so I played a little conservative because of it,” he added.
With rounds of 70, 68, 67 and 70, this was the first time Woods had posted four consecutive sub-par scores since The Northern Trust in 2013.
“My game was quite solid this entire week and as a whole I felt very good about what I did.
“I believe my game is progressing. As I was telling you guys yesterday, I had really some nice building blocks at Honda and I’ve had a few tweaks for this week and it paid off,” noted Woods.
The Valspar Championship was Woods’ fourth PGA Tour start this year, with his earlier results being T23 at the Farmers Insurance Open, a missed cut at the Genesis Open and T12 at The Honda Classic.
