Youth & Sports Minister, Hannah Yeoh, emphasises women’s sports development at the Maybank Championship

The Minister of Youth and Sports, YB Hannah Yeoh, made an announcement at the Kuala Lumpur Golf & Country Club, revealing a RM1 million matching grant dedicated to supporting the Maybank Championship. This initiative aligns with the Ministry’s efforts to promote women in sports.

With the tournament broadcasted in 168 countries, she expressed her satisfaction in the event’s potential to showcase Malaysia as a prominent golfing destination.

Prior to the announcement, she engaged in discussions with the six Malaysian golfers participating in the Maybank Championship to better understand their needs. According to the Minister, the golfers proposed the revival of talent development camps to provide better support for emerging talents in the country. A place where younger girls can gather and support each other.

She further disclosed that 18,000 complimentary tickets were distributed to the public, ensuring widespread access to the tournament, while an additional 8,000 tickets were sold.

Maybank Group Director and CEO, Dato’ Khairussaleh Ramli expressed enthusiasm about drawing six of the top ten and 14 of the top 20 players, providing Malaysians with the opportunity to witness top-tier international golf in Malaysia.
