Ben Leong claimed his second consecutive title on the domestic tour with a composed, four-stroke victory at the PGM Penang Championship 2025, while Genevieve Ling delivered a dramatic playoff win in the Ladies Championship at Bukit Jawi Golf Resort.
Leong, who lifted the PGM KGPA Championship trophy just weeks ago, kept his momentum rolling at Bukit Jawi’s scenic par 72 Hill Course. Playing with precision and patience, he stayed committed to his game plan, finding fairways and capitalising on birdie opportunities. His final round featured six birdies and just one blemish, a bogey on the par-4 8th, bringing him to a tournament total of 15-under-par (-15).
“It was about staying focused and sticking to the basics,” said Leong, who now firmly reasserts his place among Malaysia’s top contenders on the tour.
Daeng Abdul Rahman finished second at 11-under-par (-11) after a solid showing, while seasoned pro R. Nachimuthu secured third place at nine-under (-9).
The final day took a turn for Edven Ying, who had shared the 36-hole lead with Leong. Trouble struck at the par-5 15th, where Ying carded a costly nine, knocking him out of contention. He settled for a tie in fourth with Danny Chia, both ending the tournament at six-under-par (-6).
Among amateurs, Zia Iqmal emerged as the top finisher, completing the 54-hole event at even par—a strong result in a competitive field.

In the Ladies Championship, it was Genevieve Ling who stole the spotlight in a nail-biting finish. After 54 holes, Ling and Zulaikah Nasser were deadlocked at two-under-par (-2), forcing a sudden-death playoff.
The playoff, staged on the par-5 10th, stretched to three tense attempts. Both players traded pars on the first two holes, displaying nerves of steel. On the third playoff hole, Genevieve landed her second shot safely on the green, while Zulaikah chipped on with her third. Ling’s birdie attempt nestled just short of the hole, but she calmly tapped in, applying pressure on her opponent. Zulaikah’s putt to extend the match lipped out, handing Genevieve the win.
The victory marked back-to-back titles for Ling, who also triumphed at the KGPA Ladies Championship last month.
Pre-tournament favourite Liyana Durisic, who held a four-stroke lead heading into the final round, slipped into third place after struggling to regain her rhythm on the final day.
The PGM Penang Championship 2025 featured a total prize purse of RM180,000 for the men’s field and RM30,000 for the ladies.
