Like all professional golfers worldwide, Nicholas Fung is out of work with the suspension of tour golf due to the Covid-19 crisis.
While obviously frustrated with not being able to compete, the Asian Tour winner is glad that he gets to spend time at home with wife Suki during the Movement Control Order (MCO) … especially since they are expecting their first child this August.
“It’s actually good that I get to spend more time with Suki now. I’ve been on tour for many years, so we never really got to spend a long stretch together. Suki is giving birth this August, so I will become a ‘papa’ very soon,” said Nicholas, revealing that the couple will be welcoming a baby girl to the family.
The Fungs tied the knot last December but have yet to go on a real honeymoon, although they spent a week overseas together while Nicholas was competing in the New Zealand Open earlier this year.
“We had planned to go to the United States and Canada but that will have to wait until the Covid-19 pandemic dies down,” said Nicholas, who hails from Kota Kinabalu but now lives in Kuala Lumpur with Perak-born Suki.
Nicholas noted that he has taken on some household chores to lighten Suki’s load as she is already in her second trimester. “Of course, I have to go out to buy groceries. I’ve also learnt to cook and do a lot of housekeeping,” he shared.
Working on his strength and conditioning at home
Apart from his husbandly duties, Nicholas is working out daily to keep in shape as he awaits the Asian Tour and the domestic PGM Tour to resume.
“The long break allows me to really work on my strength and conditioning. The first thing I do when I wake up in the morning is spend 30 minutes loosening up my body and stretching.
“Then I have breakfast, rest for an hour, and follow up with a one-hour workout,” said Nicholas, who won the 2017 Queen’s Cup for his first and, to date, only Asian Tour title.
Working on his culinary skills in the kitchen
“After preparing lunch and relaxing for a while watching TV, I do some swing and short game drills to keep in touch with my game,” added the 2013 Asian Development Tour Order of Merit winner.
Nicholas noted that he is really looking forward to playing golf again once the MCO is lifted.
“The first few things I will do is go for a game with my buddies, have a nice steamboat dinner with my wife and also go out to enjoy all the other food that we love!”
