The Ursern valley at the foot of the Gotthard Pass is one of the most impressive upland valleys in Switzerland. Andermatt (1444 m) lies at the heart of Switzerland’s Alpine passes, and is the largest of the three villages in the valley; it’s at the crossroads of the mountain passes from north to south and from east to west.
Switzerland is considered the water tower of Europe – and in the holiday region of Andermatt you stand right in the middle. Four water sources spring from the Gotthard massif, namely the Rhine, Reuss, Ticino and Rhone, which carry seven percent of the alpine water in all four directions. The four-source path, an attractive and varied hike in five stages, connects the sources.
Andermatt Swiss Alps is located in the centre of Switzerland. A year-round destination, it offers a myriad of active adventures all 365 days of the year. In the summer, there are a number of activities that visitors can indulge in including golf, hiking and mountain biking.

The 18-hole par-72 championship course in the idyllic alpine village in the Swiss Alps is an incredible golf course that has been developed to be as sustainable as possible.
Surrounded by beautiful surroundings, Andermatt Swiss Alps Golf Course has been designed to be in harmony with nature. Awarded the globally recognised GEO certification, it meets or exceeds all criteria of the World Golf Environmental Organization in the areas of nature conservation, resources management and social integration.
Some key aspects of the golf course’s commitment to sustainability include:
An aim to be carbon neutral – The Andermatt Swiss Alps Golf Course gets all of its power from hydroelectric stations and wind turbines in the Gotthard region. The clubhouse is heated with CO2-neutral district heat, which is generated using local wood chips.
Using regional and sustainable resources – As an initiative to protect the planet, the course obtains consumables, such as sand, from local plants, where possible.
Protecting nature for future generations – Meticulously planned for ecological offset and compensation areas, the golf course also features a specific cantonal conservation area Bäz, which makes up nearly 40% of the total area of the golf course.
Wildlife monitoring – There are plenty of animal species have been identified on the golf course. This continues to have a positive impact on the populations of breeding birds, with an increase in rare birds like the Whinchat and the Rosefinch as well as dragonflies.
The golf course was named Switzerland’s Best Golf Course by World Golf Awards in 2016, 2017, 2018 and 2020. In addition, at the Swiss Golf Awards 2018, golfers in Switzerland voted the Andermatt Swiss Alps Golf Course number one in the category “Best 18-hole course in Switzerland”.
