Malaysia’s Mirabel Ting made an impressive start at the Hartford HealthCare Women’s Championship presented by Munich Re, carding a five-under-par 66 to share the first-round lead with rookie Megha Ganne.
Ting delivered a composed display, missing just one fairway and hitting 16 greens in regulation. Her excellent ball-striking and confident putting helped her take advantage of the receptive conditions at The Golf Club of Avon.
“I would say my putting was the key today. I was putting really well all morning, and hitting shots close definitely helped. I only missed one fairway and hit 16 greens, so there were a lot of positives, but there’s still room to improve. I won’t dwell too much on today’s round,” said Ting.
The strong opening round continues an outstanding rookie season for the former Florida State University standout, who has already recorded six top-10 finishes and is currently ninth in the Epson Tour Race for the Card standings.
Ganne matched Ting’s 66 after finishing strongly with an eagle on her final hole, earning a share of the lead.
Japan’s Yurika Tanida is one stroke back on four-under-par 67, while LPGA Tour members Camille Boyd and Gurleen Kaur are among four players tied for fourth at three-under-par.
With just two strokes separating the top four, Ting will look to maintain her momentum when the second round gets underway on Friday.
