Sukree and Marcus share opening round lead at Royal Pekan

Veteran professional Sukree Othman and Marcus Lim carded matching five-under-par 67s to share the first-round lead at the PGM Royal Pekan Closed Championship 2026 at Royal Pekan Golf Club.

Sukree produced a flawless, bogey-free round to set the early clubhouse target, while Marcus mixed an eagle and six birdies with a bogey at the fourth and a double bogey on the 10th to join him at the top of the leaderboard.

A shot behind on four-under-par 68 is Shaifubari Muda, while Zia Izzuddeen sits in fourth place on three-under-par 69 after the opening day.

In the Ladies Championship, Zulaikah Nasser holds a one-shot advantage after an even-par 72. Her round featured three birdies and three bogeys, giving her a slender lead over Jocelyn Chee.

Recent Penang winner Liyana is tied on two-over-par 74, while leading amateur Foong Xi Yu opened with a three-over-par 75.

A total of 76 players are competing in this week’s championship, which is being played over the par-72 Royal Pekan Golf Club course. Players enjoyed favourable conditions during the opening round, with clear skies and light winds throughout the day.

The PGM Royal Pekan Closed Championship 2026 offers a total prize purse of RM180,000, while the Ladies Championship carries a purse of RM30,000.
