The Els Club Desaru Coast unveils enhanced Ridge Course ahead of WAGC 2026

The Els Club Desaru Coast - Hole 3 Ridge Course

The Ridge Course at The Els Club Desaru Coast reopened on April 1, 2026, following a comprehensive 12-month enhancement programme carried out by the club’s in-house agronomy team. The reopening comes ahead of the World Amateur Golf Championship (WAGC), set to take place from 23 to 31 October 2026, reinforcing Desaru Coast’s position as a leading destination for both international golf events and leisure travel.

Set against the backdrop of the South China Sea, The Els Club Desaru Coast is a key highlight within the broader Desaru Coast destination—home to luxury beachfront resorts, family-friendly attractions and a growing portfolio of lifestyle and wellness experiences. The Ridge Course enhancement further strengthens the destination’s appeal, offering visitors a seamless blend of world-class golf, relaxation and coastal living.

The Ridge Course, one of three nines at the Ernie Els Signature Design Ocean Course, has undergone extensive improvements to ensure exceptional playing conditions while preserving the integrity of its original design. Fairways have been re-grassed to deliver healthier and more consistent surfaces, bunkers fully refurbished with new sand and drainage systems upgraded to perform optimally across varying weather conditions. Landscaping enhancements further elevate the course’s natural coastal beauty, creating a more visually striking and enjoyable experience for golfers.

Izrin Hashim, Chief Executive Officer, Desaru Development Holdings One Sdn Bhd (Desaru Coast), said, “This milestone not only elevates the golfing experience at Desaru Coast but also underscores our vision of the destination as a holistic tourism and sports hub. With world-class facilities, internationally recognised resorts and the natural beauty of our coastline, Desaru Coast is uniquely positioned to deliver an integrated destination experience.”

“As we prepare to host international events such as the WAGC, this reflects our readiness to welcome global players and visitors with the infrastructure, hospitality and experiences expected of a world-class destination. Beyond golf, visitors can enjoy a diverse offering from luxury resorts and pristine beaches to adventure attractions, wellness and dining, making Desaru Coast an ideal getaway for both leisure and business travellers.”

Harris Abdullah, General Manager of The Els Club Desaru Coast, said, “The reopening of the Ridge Course marks an important milestone for us. This improvement initiative demonstrates our ongoing dedication to elevating the golf experience, ensuring our courses remain among the finest in the region. We look forward to welcoming golfers to experience these improvements firsthand.”

To complement the refreshed course, a new fleet of golf carts has been introduced, offering enhanced comfort and convenience throughout the round.

To celebrate the reopening, golfers can experience all three nines of the Ocean Course – Ridge, Coast and Lakes – throughout April 2026. This limited-time opportunity allows visitors to enjoy a full golf and travel experience at Desaru Coast, supported by its range of premium accommodations, curated dining experiences and recreational offerings. The timing also comes ahead of the Lakes Course entering its next phase of renovation beginning May 1, 2026.

The reopening marks an exciting new chapter for The Els Club Desaru Coast, further strengthening Desaru Coast’s position as a must-visit destination for sports tourism, international events and leisure experiences.
